The 'Healthier You: NHS Diabetes Prevention Programme' (NHS DPP) started in 2016 with the aim of identifying people at high risk of developing diabetes and referring them onto a behaviour change programme.1

The NHS DPP was set up on the basis that there is €strong international evidence which demonstrates how behavioural interventions, which support people to maintain a healthy weight and be more active, can significantly reduce the risk of developing the condition.€

The programme provides support to reduce participants' risk by improving nutrition, achieving a healthy weight and increasing physical activity, and is being rolled out in stages. There was 75% coverage in England by April 2017, which had seen 48,000 people referred to the service, and 18,000 people commencing on programmes.

The intention is to roll out the NHS DPP available to the rest of England during 2018. Clinical commissioning groups and local authority partners across Sustainability and Transformation Partnerships (STPs) around the country are currently being asked €to work together to submit the required documentation and submissions €¦ on behalf of the whole STP.€
