A common concern

Dry skin and eczema are very common skin conditions and can affect people of all ages. In the UK, 1 in 5 children and 1 in 12 adults have eczema.1 The good news is that for many children, their symptoms will lessen or disappear as they get older.2

The outer layer of the skin, or epidermis, provides a protective barrier. When this barrier is damaged, moisture escapes and the skin becomes dry. If dry skin starts to crack, irritants can pass into the skin leading to inflammation and itching, known as eczema.

As well as being itchy, uncomfortable and sometimes painful, dry skin and eczema can have a huge impact on a person's emotional and psychological wellbeing.
