a. Attraction

To operate efficiently, a business or organisation needs to attract the correct talent. Some businesses spend a substantial amount of time and effort promoting their professional image, thereby encouraging the right people to want to work for them. Getting recruitment right more often will save a company time and money.

b. Recruitment

The process of hiring the correct candidate is fraught with many subjective influences. To ensure a correct match with the job and the organisation, it is essential that a robust selection process is implemented. Basing decisions on a 'gut feeling' often results in employing the wrong candidate, which leads to poor productivity and upset within the workplace.

The Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development says that recruiting the wrong person can cost a company up to 2.5 times that person's annual salary.2

As well as making the right recruitment choices, all employers must have fair and transparent processes for:

  1. Job descriptions and person specifications
  2. Recruitment advertising
  3. Shortlisting and interviews
  4.  Notifying candidates of a job offer or rejection.
