Green Light Pharmacy opens to investors in change to co-op model

(Green Light Pharmacy)

Independent chain Green Light Pharmacy has announced it will change its business model and expand beyond the M25 region as it moves from being a fully employee-owned co-operative to seeking external investment.

Announcing the move on LinkedIn today (August 5), Green Light Pharmacy’s professional services lead, Paras Shah, said: “After 26 years of employee-led ownership, we’re opening the doors to external investment for the very first time.

“We’re making up to 25 per cent equity available as part of a £2 million capital raise to support our recent momentum and power our next phase of UK-wide expansion.

“From a single site to a thriving group, Green Light has always been guided by community values, innovation and long-term impact.

“Now, we’re ready to scale our vision even further – and we’re looking for like-minded partners to join us on the journey.”

The company’s website currently lists 22 branches, all but one of them located within the M25 motorway.

The most recent publicly available accounts for Green Light Pharmacy cover the 12 months to June 20, 2023.

The financial report, which was published in June 2024, says the company – then comprising 16 branches – had a “challenging’ 2022-23 during which it made an operating loss of £291,553 having turned a profit £352,629 the year before.

The company’s directors said it had “positive” future prospects with a “clear opportunity to realise sustained growth” through focusing on “the delivery of private and newly commissioned NHS services”.

Green Light Pharmacy has been approached for comment.
