Decongestants
Decongestants can provide short-term relief for blocked, stuffy noses. They can help alleviate the symptoms that may be associated with colds or flu, allergic reaction or sinusitis. They work by reducing the swelling of blood vessels in the nose.5
They are available as topical formulations (applied into the nose) - e.g. drops/spray, or oral products such as tablets, capsules or liquids. Often, they are combined with a painkiller too.5
REMEMBER: When selling a combination product to a customer, point out the ingredients, (e.g. paracetamol) so that they don't accidentally take an excess dose.
IMPORTANT: You cannot supply a product or combination of products that contain more than 720mg of pseudoephedrine at any one time without a prescription.6
