Boots dominates online searches for UK pharmacy sector

A new report has found that Boots is the most commonly searched-for brand in the UK pharmacy sector online at over 4 million searches a month, far outstripping its nearest  competitor.

The report from Salience Search Marketing analysed search data and volume trends over the last 12 months, with Boots scoring an average of 4,090,000 monthly searches and LloydsPharmacy in second place with 368,000 searches each month.

Pharmacy2U came third with around 90,000 monthly searches, while independent pharmacy chain Cohens Chemist came fourth with 40,500 searches.

Boots also topped the table for 'owned social' scores, with a score of 3,969 monthly interactions with its social media channels.

Commenting on Pharmacy2U's performance, Salience noted that despite its high search engine ranking "more could be done to promote the brand through its social channels, with an owned social score of 68 and over 37,000 combined followers".

Salience managing director Brett Janes said: “For businesses operating within the digital space, maintaining brand prominence through healthy search volume and well-planned social strategies is essential. Overall, this year we’ve noticed brands such as Boots, Lloyd’s Pharmacy and Pharmacy 2 U continue to perform well.

“It’ll be intriguing to see how this ranking alters over the next twelve months. Will Boots still be the most prominent pharmacy brand, or will a new company experience a year of wonderful growth?”
