The General Pharmaceutical Council has appointed Lynsey Cleland, who has had senior executive roles in the Scottish health and care system, as its new chief standards officer.
Cleland (pictured), who used to work as a pharmacist but is no longer on the register, comes into the post for a fixed term of one year and will oversee pharmacy education and training, pharmacy policy and standards, regulation reform, equality, diversity and inclusion and external communications.
She was most recently director of quality assurance and regulation at Healthcare Improvement Scotland, which is part of Scottish NHS.
She was also director for Scotland at the GPhC for seven years and regional lead inspector before that for three years. Between 2004 and 2008, she was head of professional ethics and professor standards inspector at the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain.
“Lynsey brings a wealth of regulatory, system leadership and public assurance experience, alongside a strong personal commitment to inclusive, person-centred care,” the GPhC said.
