CPPE starts weight management programme

The Centre for Pharmacy Postgraduate Education (CPPE) has launched a programme to support pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and trainees deliver structured, patient-centred consultations on weight management.

The programme will include workshops allowing participants to work through patient consultation scenarios. CPPE said the programme “is relevant whether medicines are supplied via independent prescribing or under a patient group direction”.

During the workshops, participants will “practise encouraging patient storytelling, asking targeted questions, documenting accurately and working through a clinical conundrum before learning the real consultation outcome”.

“The learning journey is anchored in a real consultation between Nadine, a person seeking weight management support, and Emma, the pharmacist she consulted,” CPPE said. “Co-produced with lived experience of obesity, the scenario reflects real practice.”

CPPE also said participants will complete a self-assessment that is based on the Royal Pharmaceutical Society framework for prescribers which will help “them focus on individual learning needs”.

The programme includes peer networks that will give participants insights into how best to support colleagues and improve the quality of weight management services in their pharmacies.

“By the end, participants will have developed a structured approach to consultations, improved documentation and built professional networks for ongoing development,” CPPE said.
