Boots launches centralised dispensing for 150 stores

Boots has announced the official opening of its first regional dispensing hub following what it described as a successful pilot, with 150 of the chain’s stores to benefit.

The Basingstoke hub will assemble prescriptions off-site and deliver medicines within 24 hours of a prescription being issued, either to branches or the patient’s home.

The multiple said this would “make the repeat prescription ordering process faster and more seamless for customers”.

The announcement came as the company launched PrescriptionsPlus, its rebranded NHS repeat prescriptions service which will offer online prescription tracking and real-time updates via text message.

Boots said these developments will free up capacity to “allow pharmacy professionals to deliver a wider variety of healthcare services in-store” and “foster closer collaboration with local GPs”.

Boots pharmacy director Anne Higgins commented: “In the last year, we have introduced a range of new initiatives, like real-time order tracking and integration with the NHS app, to make it easier to manage repeat prescriptions online.

“The launch of PrescriptionsPlus, our new and improved NHS repeat prescriptions service, consolidates all these upgrades in a new digital brand and a digital customer journey that’s easier to use than ever before.”
