The General Pharmaceutical Council’s investigations committee (IC) has issued an official warning to a pharmacy technician after she accessed patient records without authorisation.
On March 26 the IC found that Sarah Radford-Rice accessed seven patients’ records, as well as her own records, “without authorisation or clinical justification” while working at two NHS trusts between 2020 and 2024.
Ms Radford-Rice has “acknowledged the seriousness of her actions and that they were inappropriate,” the warning notice said.
The IC found she had breached two professional standards, one relating to privacy and confidentiality and the other to the need to demonstrate leadership “by refraining from abuse of position”.
The pharmacy technician was warned to “take great care over matters related to patient records and other confidential information” to ensure that privacy is respected and confidence in her profession is maintained.
She was also advised to “pay careful regard to the relevant standards and to the guidance provided by the council in respect of confidentiality and information governance”.
The warning will appear on her registration for 12 months.
