A branch of Well Pharmacy in the south east of Wales reopened yesterday (April 27) following a full refurbishment after flooding caused extensive damage to the premises last year.
The branch was forced to close in November 2025 after Storm Claudia led to the river Monnow reaching 18 times its normal level, causing the evacuation of hundreds of local residents.
Around 7,000 prescription items were destroyed in the flood.
Branch manager Simon Moore said: “It was a complete disaster and something the community had never experienced before.
“The water came through with such force that the damage was extensive, not just for us but for many local businesses and residents.
“As a community pharmacy, we know our patients well and understand how important it is to be there for them. Even while operating from a temporary unit, the team worked hard to make sure people could still access their medicines and support during a very difficult time.
“This reopening is about more than just the pharmacy. It represents how the community has come together and moved forward. We are thrilled to reopen and to welcome people back through our doors.”
Deputy mayor Rob Barrell, who cut the ribbon on the reopened pharmacy, commented: “The reopening of Well Pharmacy is a really important moment for our community.
“After the impact of last year’s flooding, it’s encouraging to see local services returning, stronger than before.
“The team have gone above and beyond to support residents, and I was proud to join them in celebrating this milestone.”
