The General Pharmaceutical Council has issued a warning to a superintendent pharmacist after controlled drugs fell through the ceiling of his business.
The GPhC’s investigating committee (IC) found that on January 30, 2025, while acting as responsible pharmacist and superintendent pharmacist at Holden’s Chemist Express, Mr Holdon “failed to ensure controlled drugs were effectively managed, stored and/or disposed of correctly at the pharmacy, in that they fell through the ceiling”.
The IC also found that in November 2024 Mr Holden had “made emergency supplies of controlled drugs for more than five days’ treatment to two patients”.
The IC found he had been in breach of several professional standards, including those that related to the need to provide person-centred care, use professional judgment and speak up when things go wrong.
The warning states: “Mr Holden’s conduct is likely to undermine confidence in the profession without action being taken.
“A warning is therefore appropriate to remind Mr Holden that the safe supply and custody of drugs is essential for safe and effective patient care and that such conduct should not be repeated.”
The warning will appear on Mr Holden’s registry entry until May 20, 2027.
