Superdrug has announced the launch of an oral weight loss service after seeing “strong interest” from the public.
The chain announced yesterday (July 3) that the service was available through its Online Doctor portal, with prospective patients required “to complete a full clinical assessment with a prescriber”. The online launch will be followed by roll-out across Superdrug pharmacy branches.
The chain’s website lists the price of oral Wegovy treatment as starting from £99, but includes an option for new patients to claim a £20 discount by applying a code.
The launch of the service follows MHRA approval for oral semaglutide tablets for weight loss on June 11 this year.
Dr Clair Grainger, GP at Superdrug Online Doctor, said “Following regulatory approval, we’ve seen strong interest in our information register. With prescribing now underway, people can now complete their consultation and access treatment if clinically appropriate, whether that’s online, in pharmacy, or in clinic.”
She added, “Obesity is a complex medical issue, and any treatment will only be prescribed following a thorough clinical assessment against eligibility criteria.”
