‘Largest care home pharmacy in Norfolk’ enters administration

A pharmacy company supplying medicines to care homes that described itself as the largest company of its kind in Norfolk has entered administration.
Universal Pharmacy, which is based in the Norfolk town of Swaffham, was first incorporated in February 2011. Administrators Chris Latos and Tom D’Arcy of Begbies Traynor (Central) LLP were appointed on August 4 this year, according to The Gazette.
Accounts for the year to March 31, 2023 show that the company, whose sole director is a Mr Nadeem Sarwar, had net liabilities of £578,920, compared to net assets of £6,649 the previous year.
The company’s 2023-24 accounts have been outstanding since March 31 this year according to the Companies House website.
Universal Pharmacy dispensed 17,968 prescription items in April 2025, the last month for which NHS dispensing data is available. At its peak in August 2024, the company dispensed 25,812 items.
Universal Pharmacy acted as a guarantor of the December 2024 sale of Remedi Solutions, another pharmacy supplying medicines to care homes, out of administration to Mr Sarwar, formerly the chief executive of online pharmacy Phlo Technologies, from which he was dismissed in 2024, according to a high court judgement published in June this year.
Universal Pharmacy’s Linkedin page states: “We are the largest independent provider of pharmacy care home services in Norfolk, and we deliver medication to over 50 care homes across the region, servicing 3,000 patients every month.
“We are extremely well regarded for care home services and are considered the market leader in the region, having specialised in this area for over 10 years.”
