People in care homes should have choice and control over their healthcare, as well as access to NHS services and healthcare that is safe, promotes dignity and is delivered by competent staff. The pharmacy team has a valuable role to play in ensuring this by providing care home residents with support via medicines use reviews, advising on prescriptions, and training care home staff on the safe use and monitoring of medicines. It is therefore important to have a background knowledge of care homes and the role of pharmacy teams in these settings.
