Continuing professional development (CPD) is a requirement for all healthcare professionals. In order to provide safe and effective care, they must be able to demonstrate that they have maintained competence and are fit to practice.

Revalidation is the process that regulators require their registrants to go through in order to renew their registration. Submitting CPD records is part of that process and is intended to provide assurance that practitioners are up to date and are consistently seeking to improve their practice.

In order to demonstrate professionalism and exercise professional judgement appropriately, pharmacy technicians should remain aware of the profressional standards and understand how these affect them.

Regularly engaging in learning and keeping abreast of updates in practice will be of benefit. Reflecting on experiences and considering how to improve will enable pharmacy technicians to develop professionally and integrate new knowledge and skills into practice.

The CPD element of the new revalidation process provides a structured approach to learning and development, allowing pharmacy professionals the opportunity to reflect on their practice and identify gaps in their knowledge and areas for self-improvement.

See TM's CPD module for more detail on revalidation requirements.
