Facial cleansing is important because whether we like it or not, our skin is covered in bacteria, pollutants and dead skin cells.

Dr Maryam Zamani, a leading aesthetic doctor explains: €By washing our faces, we clear our skin of dead skin (we shed millions of skin cells daily) and clear our pores. If we did not wash our faces, there would be an excessive build-up of these dead skin cells, an overload of oily buildup and accumulation of bacteria and pollutants causing clogged pores and likely acne, blotchy skin and redness.€

Since no one wants that, Zamani recommends that good facial cleansing starts early. €Tweens and individuals from 10 years of age and onward should wash their faces daily with a gentle cleanser.€

For Corinne Morley, in-house beauty expert for organic brand Trilogy, cleansing is the foundation of any beauty routine. €The build-up of excess oil (sebum) and skin cells needs to be removed to keep skin looking healthy and radiant.€ And, she adds, water alone won't do the trick for removing oil and debris, so using the right cleanser is essential. If your customers think they need only cleanse if they wear make-up, they need to think again. Pollution, grime, oils and grease build up on the skin, even for those who don't wear a scrap of make-up.
