Introducing Dymista® Control nasal spray
Dymista® Control is a new prescription strength, double action formulation that offers fast, effective hay fever relief.1
It combines the anti-allergenic effect of an antihistamine (azelastine hydrochloride) and the anti-inflammatory action of a corticosteroid (fluticasone propionate) in one formulation.1
The nasal spray reduces inflammation and related symptoms such as:1
Nasal symptoms comprising rhinorrhoea (runny nose), nasal congestion, sneezing and nasal itching, and
Eye symptoms comprising itching, tearing/watering and redness of the eyes.

Key features of Dymista® Control:
- UNIQUE
The ONLY Double Action nasal spray containing both a corticosteroid and an antihistamine available as a Pharmacy Medicine
- FAST
Gets to work in 5 minutes1
- EFFECTIVE
Reduces inflammation in both nose & eye symptoms (nose symptoms comprising rhinorrhoea, nasal congestion, sneezing and nasal itching and eye symptoms comprising itching, tearing/watering and redness of the eyes) compared to placebo, azelastine alone and fluticasone alone1
Dymista® Control is indicated for customers with moderate to severe hay fever symptoms for whom treatment with a corticosteroid or antihistamine nasal spray has not provided sufficient relief.1
In light of this indication, let’s consider who might benefit from Dymista® Control.
Determining the severity of hay fever symptoms
Hay fever involves classic symptoms such as sneezing and bilateral nasal itching, nasal discharge (rhinorrhoea) and nasal congestion, usually accompanied by eye symptoms caused by allergic conjunctivitis (itchy, red, watery eyes).2
Additional symptoms may include postnasal drip, itching of the palate and cough as well as snoring, mouth breathing and halitosis.2
As you've seen in the video, hay fever symptoms can be classified as mild or moderate to severe:2
Mild symptoms (all of the following apply) |
Moderate to severe symptoms (one or more of the following applies) |

Moderate to severe hay fever can lead to a reduced quality of life due to its adverse effects on a person’s work, home and social life.2 For young adults, this may result in impaired performance during their studies and exam periods. Dymista® Control might be suitable for these customers provided that they’ve already tried a corticosteroid or antihistamine nasal spray without experiencing sufficient symptom relief.1
Dymista® Control is NOT an appropriate treatment option for customers suffering from mild hay fever symptoms, or those who have not yet tried a nasal spray containing a corticosteroid or antihistamine.1
Assessing hay fever medication
Treatment options for hay fever include intranasal corticosteroids, non-sedating oral antihistamines and intranasal antihistamines.2 Azelastine hydrochloride is the only intranasal antihistamine licensed for hay fever in the UK and it is only available on prescription. OTC treatment options include:3,4

Before Dymista® Control can be considered for your customer, they MUST have tried an intranasal antihistamine or intranasal corticosteroid. If a customer has not experienced sufficient symptom relief with a nasal spray, check their compliance with self-care strategies and whether they have been using treatment as indicated. Steroid nasal sprays should be used regularly to achieve full benefit.3
It may also be useful to evaluate your customer’s technique for using intranasal sprays.2
