Identify your core values
Take a piece of paper and write down at the top: 'What's really important to me?' Write down single words until you have around eight. You may initially come up with words such as family, your husband, wife and children.
In these examples, ask yourself the question: 'What does ______ provide me with?' For example, the question 'What does my family provide me with?' could lead to core values such as 'security', 'harmony' and 'happiness'.
Develop an adaptable approach
Identify a current business challenge that requires some focus and options regarding how to move forward. Work through the following questions:
- What is currently working?
- Why is it working?
- What's the ideal?
- What needs to be tweaked?
- What resources are needed?
Reflect on your answers before committing to a plan of measurable actions with specific deadlines.
Your network of support
Create a mind map to gain an understanding of your potential network. The main branches of the map could be 'surgeries', 'LPC', 'other pharmacies', 'hospital contacts', 'public health' and 'Clinical Commissioning Group'.
Prioritise the relative importance of each of these to help facilitate action planning. Once prioritised, identify the 'win-win-win' for developing the relationship (i.e. win for me, win for the other person and win for the patient).
